We understand that not everyone has the time, energy, or finances to come out to Seattle and celebrate with us. On the suggestion of a friend who wouldn't be able to come, we're going to try to stream video of the ceremony and parts of the reception LIVE over the internet. The closest hotel to the venue is the Holiday Inn Seattle, just two blocks south on Dexter Ave. We've set aside a small block of rooms here, since it's in a super convenient location for both the wedding and for sightseeing around downtown. If you want to save money and forgo renting a car, you can get to the hotel by light-rail/bus, and then walk to the venue. Our rate for this hotel is currently $169+tax per night, with check-in on Friday afternoon and check-out on Monday morning. Just ask for "Alicia and Cody Wedding" when you book. If you find a better rate online, go for it; and if you'd rather stay in a different hotel, go right ahead! They will be releasing the unfilled rooms to the public on April 11th, and we are not financially responsible for the rooms that don't fill.Parking Information
If you choose to drive to the venue, there will be ample street parking on Dexter Ave., Harrison St., and Republican St., as well as two paid lots within a block. Street parking is free on Sundays, if you can find it.Public Transit Information
Seattle has a very nice public transit system, so don't be afraid to take advantage of it as a less expensive alternative to renting a car! There is a light-rail train that connects the airport to downtown. From there, you can transfer to a bus that can very likely take you to within a short walk of your hotel. There's also a bus stop that serves the 26 and 28 from downtown right in front of the venue! Use the King County Metro's trip planner to figure out which bus(es) you need to take and when. The buses can also take you most places around town within one or two transfers, and only cost about $2.50/person.Will there be other events (rehearsal dinner, bachelor(ette) parties, etc.)?
Sort of. We have a pretty crazy timeline with when people are showing up. We will probably not have formal bachelor(ette) parties. There will be a rehearsal dinner, but we are keeping it only to the wedding party and our parents to keep the logistics easier. We are staying at the Holiday Inn that night, so you might be able to catch us there in the morning for breakfast. After that, we'll both be taking Monday off, and haven't quite decided how we might spend that day. Seattle is a young, hip, and fun city with lots to do! Plus, by mid-May the sun should be starting to shine again...Since the venue is so close to the Seattle Center, you will have no excuse not to go check out the Space Needle and the variety of museums and attractions around it. If the weather's nice, the trip to the top of the Space Needle is a must for a 360ยบ view of the city and Mt. Rainier. Do it!
Downtown Seattle offers lots of shopping opportunities along the Pike-Pine corridor. Then, just before the waterfront is the Pike Place Market. Pick up some AMAZING Chukar Cherries, visit the first Starbucks, and watch dudes throw fish. It's an afternoon adventure. The Seattle Art Museum and Seattle Aquarium are also within walking distance.
Pioneer Square is great for those looking for the night life. Live music, great food, and a funky atmosphere. While you're there, the Underground Tour is an entertaining glimpse into Seattle's colored history...
One of our favorite places downtown is the International District. Specifically we like to visit Uwajimaya, a huge Japanese grocery store, for our cravings of Hi-chew and mochi ice cream. Yum!
If you're curious to venture outside of downtown but don't have a car, go Ride the Ducks! It's a tour of the city by land and sea in a WWII amphibious vehicle. If you have a car, you can take a ferry across Puget Sound to visit the Olympic Mountains... or go east to the Cascades... or go visit the plethora of gardens around town! We live on the other side of Lake Washington, and there's a decent amount of stuff to do over there, too.
Of course, this is just a sampling. There are more things to do than we can list! May as well make a trip of it while you're here, right?
