Alicia
Alicia is a graduate student at the University of Washington, pursuing a Ph.D. in volcano seismology. In her free time, she is an amateur graphic novelist and artist. She was born in San Antonio, TX, and has lived in Houston, TX, and Longmont, CO.
Cody
Cody works in the production department at the gaming company Privateer Press, Inc. He enjoys a variety of games, especially video games, card games, tabletop war games (specifically his company's product Warmachine/Hordes), and RPGs. He was born and raised in Durango, CO.
How we met, and where we've been
We both went to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO, for our undergrad. We met at Kendo Club our freshman year (September 2003), and had a few classes together. Our group of friends was really close, so we ate together at almost all our meals in the dining hall. At night, we'd also play lots and lots of Dance Dance Revolution (much to our roommates' chagrin). After a few months of Alicia dropping very subtle hints, we got together on Valentine's Day in 2004. We've been inseparable ever since, and have lived on our own together since summer 2008. Once Alicia finished her Master's degree, she decided to move to Seattle to attend UW. Cody followed.
The engagement
After being together for seven years, we both kind of decided it was about time to think about tying the knot. We picked out a ring in March 2011, but Cody kept it to make the actual proposal a surprise. Cody succeeded in catching Alicia completely off-guard on the morning of April 3, 2011 as she was getting out of the shower. We celebrated more formally later that night over a nice dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant.
